Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)
The duration of the course is 4 years curricula followed by a six month internship programme. It is the only college in the entire North Eastern region that is recognized by the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP).
The objective of the course is to train the undergraduates to independently evaluate, assess, diagnose, prescribe, plan and practice physiotherapy in a competent manner.
In the first two years, students have didactic lectures including the basic sciences, basic concepts of exercise therapy (regarding handling, positioning, the principles of various techniques used) and electro therapeutic modalities including the basic concepts of biophysics. The students are also posted for observational training.
During the third and fourth year, students are exposed to clinical postings which include Out-Patients and In-Patients of the orthopedics, neurological, cardiopulmonary, OBG, pediatrics, surgery etc. The students thereby can gain experience in patient care including early intervention, acute care and long term treatment.
The College is attached to the Department of Physiotherapy at Central Referral Hospital that provides adequate clinical exposure to the students.
Must have passed (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized board or University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum 45% aggregate marks for general category and 40% marks for SC, ST & OBC category, having secured pass marks in individual subject.

6 seats are reserved for applicants of State of Sikkim. Applicants seeking admission to this category shall directly apply to Director, Technical Education Govt. of Sikkim, Gangtok
North East category -
9 seats are reserved for applicants from North East States. Applicants must furnish Domicile/PR certificate from appropriate authority in respect of parent/self.
Defence category -
2 seats are reserved for wards of defence personnel posted in Sikkim. Following certificates are essential for those applying under the defense category.
- Certificate from Commandant/Adjutant of their respective units showing at least 5 years of active service.
- Copy of posting order to Sikkim.
- Copy of joining report from appropriate authority based in Sikkim (Do Part II/Casulty)

Candidates applying from abroad are requested to send an application along with demand draft of US $50 in favour of SMU, payable at Gangtok.
In addition, all parents/guardians of NRI/NRI sponsored candidates are to produce a bank guarantee for tuition fees for the first year duration of course at the time of admission. In case bank guarantee cannot be produced at the time of admission, the admission will be provisional. The said bank guarantee will have to be produced within one month from the date of admission failing which admission will be cancelled.
An affidavit will also be required to be executed by the parent and candidate stating the correct relationship between the candidate and the sponsor, at the time of admission.

I, Mr./Mrs. __(name of sponsor)____ a resident of __(complete address abroad with country of residence)__ hereby sponsor Mr./Ms. __(name of candidate)__ who is my __(mention correct relationship)__. I also undertake to bear the cost of tuition fees of the candidate for the entire course.
A photocopy of my proof of residence (copy of passport/certificate of residence from appropriate authority in case of citizens of Nepal/Bhutan) is also enclosed.

Hospital: Presently the Central Referral Hospital has 500 beds. It is a nine storeyed building with a floor space of more than 3,00,000 sq. ft. The hospital has 21 specialties, 8 operation theatres and state-of-the-art medical equipment.
College: The college is fully equipped and staffed. The college is housed in an imposing building with all modern facilities All non clinical and clinical Departments are fully operational.
Lecture Hall: There are 4 lecture halls equipped with modern audio-visual teaching aids.
Laboratories and Dissection Hall: There are 9 Laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment. The dissection hall is large enough for 150 students to work simultaneously.
Computers: All departments are provided with computers. Internet facilities are available in the college and central library.
Library and reading rooms: The library has 8000 text and reference books and subscribes to 100 National and International journals. Internet and Medline facilities are available for students and faculty.
Hostel: The Institute is fully residential. All undergraduate students are required to stay in the hostel. Only permanent local residents are exempted. The nine storeyed building houses 200 rooms. Each room is furnished with a mattress, a study table, a chair, a cupboard/shelf for each student. Every room has an attached toilet, service area and hot water facility. An exclusive dining hall with a modern kitchen and mess is also housed in the hostel building. The mess provides vegetarian / non-vegetarian meals. Dining in the mess is compulsory for all inmates of the hostel. The students of first year will be provided with 3 seated rooms
Communication: Two ISD/STD booths operate inside the campus. A telephone connection has been provided on each floor in the hostel building.
Bank: Canara Bank operates an extension counter on campus. There is also a UTI and HDFC ATM facility nearby.
Entertainment: The University organizes movie shows at frequent intervals in the fully equipped auditorium.
Sports: Facilities for Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Carom and Chess are available. The college also has an active cricket team.
Medicare (medical insurance): All students are covered by the Medical Insurance Scheme (Medicare) provided by the Institute. There is a separate ward reserved for students at the Central Referral Hospital (CRH).
Teacher guardian scheme: Under this scheme, each student is allotted a specific teacher guardian who provides emotional support, monitors academic performance, provides necessary guidance to his/her ward and communicates all such details regularly to the parents of the student. This scheme has received tremendous support from students and parents alike.

Admission is based on marks obtained in 10+2 (or equivalent) examination. There is no entrance test. Now eligible candidates can take direct admission for 2013 academic session after submission of required documents & payment of fees.

Mode of Payment
The fee should be remitted by a demand draft in favour of “ Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences” payable at Gangtok.
For NRI/Foreign students, fees are to be paid in US Dollar demand draft on account of tuition fee as per the fee structure in favour of “Sikkim Manipal University” payable at Gangtok, India drawn from outside India, out of the account of sponsor. The clearing charges are to be born by the student in case of the instrument gets clear from outside India.
The payment can also be made in INR (Indian Rupees) provided that draft is made only from NRE (Non Resident External) account of sponsor with a certificate from the issuing bank. The conversional rate will be intimated through the counseling letter.
This fee can also be paid through SWIFT transfer from outside India. In such cases, the sender is to bear the transaction charges and the sender is also to provide the copies of proof of money transfer for follow-up and records. The payment instruction for SWIFT transfer is as follows:

Schedule of Payment of Fees
For the second academic year, all the qualified candidates have to pay tuition and other fees within one month from the date of declaration of 1st year results. For the third/fourth/fifth academic year, form third year onwards, tuition and other fees have to be paid by 31st of July of each year respectively.
- A bank guarantee will have to be furnished to pay 100% tuition fees for the balance duration of the course in case of withdrawal of original certificates from the Institution.
- Delayed payment of fees will attract a modest fine of 0.5% p.m in the first month, 1% in the second and third month, and 2% for more than 3 months.
