Educational Field Trip to Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary

The Department of English, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, successfully organized an educational field trip to Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, Soreng, on the 3rd and 4th of April, 2026. A total of 15 students, accompanied by 5 faculty members, participated in the trip.

Purpose of the Visit

The purpose of the visit was to enhance experiential learning for students enrolled in courses such as “Literature and Environment” and “Nature Writing”. The excursion provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with a natural ecosystem, allowing them to move beyond classroom-based learning and develop a deeper understanding of environmental themes reflected in literature.

Learning Experience

Surrounded by the rich biodiversity and scenic beauty of the sanctuary, students actively observed, explored, and reflected on the relationship between nature and literature. The field experience enabled them to appreciate how literary works are often shaped by environmental contexts and ecological consciousness.
