Department of Commerce Organizes Industrial Visit to Alkem Laboratories Limited
The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (FHSSLA), Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), successfully organized an industrial visit for B.Com 3rd Year students to Alkem Laboratories Limited, Samardung, South Sikkim on 19th May 2026.
A total of 29 participants, including 27 students and 2 faculty members, took part in the visit. The primary objective of the programme was to provide students with practical exposure to industrial operations and enable them to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world business practices.
During the visit, students were provided with valuable insights into various aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, including:
- Organizational structure and functioning of the industry
- Manufacturing processes and production systems
- Quality control measures and standards
- Workplace practices and professional ethics
- Industrial management systems and operations
The interactive session with company officials offered students an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and develop a better understanding of professional work environments. The exposure enabled them to relate theoretical concepts learned in the classroom to actual industrial practices.
The Department of Commerce expressed its sincere gratitude to Mr Prabal, Mr Prasant, Mr Diwakar, and the HR Team of Alkem Laboratories Limited for their warm hospitality and valuable guidance throughout the visit. Their support and cooperation contributed significantly to making the educational programme both informative and successful.
The industrial visit proved to be a meaningful and enriching learning experience for the students. It further strengthened their understanding of industry practices, organizational functioning, and professional requirements, thereby enhancing their preparedness for future career opportunities.
