Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The department offers MBA in Finance, HR, Marketing and Systems. Emphasis is on development of an all round managerial perspective. Students can opt for any two of the above four specializations. The department also conducts regular training and development programmes to Govt. officers, professional managers and students.
It is a two-year course leading to the award of an MBA degree. The programme has dual specialization. Students opt for marketing and any one of the following specialization.

Graduate Engineers and Bachelor's degree holders in 10+2+3 scheme with at least 50% marks(with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC students) at graduation level will be selected based on performance in the Management Aptitude Test (MAT)/(CAT). Candidates should apply to SMIT on the prescribed form quoting their MAT/CAT score. Candidates will be selected based on their performance in Group Discussions and Interviews to be conducted at SMIT, Rangpo on the dates given on the page of IMPORTANT DATES.
An entrance test for those not having a MAT/CAT score will also be conducted by SMIT on 20th June 2011, if required.
Twelve seats are reserved for candidates of Sikkimese origin. Candidates for this category will be recommended by Director - Technical Education, Govt. of Sikkim.
Infrastructure / Facilities
Accommodation: The institute is fully residential with separate hostels for boys and girls, and provides excellent accommodation to over 2500 students. The hostel rooms are two-seaters, well furnished, and have attached bathrooms with hot water supply. There is a students' mess and a canteen providing vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Recreation rooms with TVs, separate gymnasiums for boys and girls and sports facilities are available. Telephone facilities are available in each hostel. It is mandatory for all students to stay in the SMIT Hostel.
Guest House: A well furnished Guest House is available at the campus. The accommodation in the Guest House is also provided to the parents/guardians of students & visitors.
Entrepreneurship Development Cell: The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) helps students in exploring entrepreneurial opportunities and assists them in starting their own ventures. The EDC regularly conducts Entrepreneurship Awareness/Development programs.
Library, Reading Room & Internet facility: The Institute has a well equipped library which caters to the needs of students and teachers. Besides course related books, the library also stocks general and technical books. The Developing Library Network (DELNET) facility provides on-line access to leading libraries in the country. The college subscribes to a large number of the leading professional journals in the relevant fields. The Institute is also a member of INDEST- AICTE Consortium and thus has on line access to most of the leading journals in the field of technology like IEEE, ASME, Elsevier (Science Direct), Digital Engineering, DELNET etc. The library also houses an audio visual section and offers Internet connectivity. The library remains open from 8.30 AM to 10 PM everyday including Sundays and holidays.
The Institute has Cyber Cafe to provide internet facility. Keeping with the latest technological trend, the hostels have been provided Wi-Fi connectivity.
Shopping Centre: There is a shopping centre at the campus where following facilities are available:

Competency Certification Center: A competency certification center is established at SMIT in collaboration with NASSCOM. The competency certification center will enable students to appear for online testing for specified competencies. Certificates issued by NASSCOM will be valid nationwide.

Training & Placement
Training & Placement department is the hub of all interaction between the corporate, industries, and Academic/Research Institutions, with Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT). The department functions with the following objectives
- To provide in-plant Training to students to supplement their curriculum.
- To arrange the final semester industrial projects to work on live problems (Practice Schools).
- To bring Industrial establishments to the campus for recruitment of students. To achieve these objectives, the cell organizes courses and training programmes to enhance the aptitude and skill of the students to increase employability. Regular feedbacks are also obtained from the industries on the advances in technology vis-à-vis the facilities in the Institute and appropriate actions are taken.
T & P department also organizes events like seminars, workshops, guest lectures and corporate parties.
Teacher Guardian Scheme: Yet another unique scheme of the institute is the teacher guardian scheme. Under this, each student is allotted a specific teacher guardian who provides emotional support, monitors academic performance, provides necessary guidance to the ward and communicates all such details regularly to the parents of the ward. This scheme has received tremendous support from students and parents alike.
Students' Benevolent Fund: This is a contributory benevolent fund which seeks to provide financial assistance to needy students. The executive committee comprising of faculty members and students participates in the selection of beneficiaries. Six students mainly those who lost their earning parent, benefited from this fund during the academic year 2006-07.
Medicare: The Institute has well equipped dispensary and resident doctors with supporting staff. Those needing specialized treatment are sent to Central Referral Hospital in an ambulance available round the clock. Medical Group Insurance is provided for medical reimbursements.
Alumni Association: The Alumni association established in November 2006. It has a registered strength of 478 as on date. They make us feel proud. Many have brought laurels to their parents and to SMIT by doing excellently well in their assigned jobs in India and abroad Some details are on our website. Mode of Payment
- The fee should be remitted by a demand draft in favour of “Sikkim Manipal University” payable at Gangtok.
- Parents who are unable to pay fees by DD can deposit their ward’s fee through cash by depositing the same in the bank through bank challan available with Finance Department.
Schedule of Payment of Fees
Fee can be paid in lump sum amount which is one time every year and to be paid at the beginning of odd semester (1 Aug. to 31 August every year). However the institution offers the students the option of paying the fees in two easy installments per year i.e in the beginning of every semester during odd semester (01Aug. to 31 Aug) and for even semester (7 Jan. to 15 Feb).
Note: Delayed payment of fees will attract a modest fine of 0.5% p.m in the first month, 1% in the second and third month, and 2% for 3 months onwards.
