Report on the Literary Fest “Two Worlds, One Literature: Echoes of Shakespeare and Tagore”
The Department of English, in collaboration with the Drama Club, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, organized a literary fest titled “Two Worlds, One Literature: Echoes of Shakespeare and Tagore” on 25 May 2026 at the University Auditorium.
The event was conceived as a tribute to the enduring literary legacies of William Shakespeare and Rabindranath Tagore. The programme served as a belated commemoration of Shakespeare’s birth and death anniversary and Rabindra Jayanti. It sought to celebrate literature across cultures, languages, performance traditions, and artistic expressions while encouraging active student participation.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Madan Chhetri, Coordinator, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts. This was followed by brief presentations introducing the lives, works, and literary significance of William Shakespeare and Rabindranath Tagore.
The event featured a diverse range of literary and cultural performances, including:
- Rabindra Nritya
- Rabindra Sangeet
- Storytelling sessions
- Folk tale narration
- Poetry recitation
- Solo musical performances
- Group musical performances
- Dance presentations
These performances reflected the students’ engagement with literature, culture, and the performing arts while highlighting the enduring relevance of both Shakespeare and Tagore.
A special highlight of the programme was the launch of The House Where a Soul Waited, the debut novel of Himanshu Pal, a sixth-semester BA English student. The book launch served as a celebration of emerging literary talent within the department and highlighted the importance of nurturing creative writing among students.
The event also featured an original theatrical production staged by the Drama Club. The performance showcased the creativity, teamwork, and theatrical talent of the students and was warmly received by the audience.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Priyanka Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
The event successfully provided a platform for students to express themselves creatively through literature, music, storytelling, and theatre. It fostered an appreciation for literary traditions while also strengthening collaborative and cultural engagement among students.
