Psychology Lab

OVERVIEW

The overarching aim of undergraduate program in psychology is to create a self-reflexive and self-reflective stance in the students' growth through self-awareness, critical perspective building, enhancing societal sensibility and preparing for professional life through seeking knowledge in basic psychology and acquiring relevant skills.

The department started with B.A. Psychology and Ph.D. program in the year 2022 followed by B.Sc. Clinical Psychology.

To nurture the potential in every student by providing him/her strong foundation in various areas of psychology.
To impart theoretical and practical knowledge to students enabling them to excel at professional and personal levels.
To enhance the skills of the students in a qualitative direction where they learn to explore and employ their growing acumen in real life fields.

To orient the students towards scientific and humanistic study of the complexities of human mind and behaviour.

To impart knowledge of basic psychological concepts and methods.

To help shaping cognitive, affective and behavioural abilities of students.

Facilitating acquisition of basic skills in major areas of application.
To develop a strong sense of ethical and moral aptness in general and in the context of learning and its assessment in particular.

Program Educational Objectives

The graduates should be able to:

Demonstrate the ability to have professional competence in applying psychological logic, techniques, and participation in group projects.
Demonstrate the ability to develop specialized skills suited to specific sub fields of psychology (e.g. clinical, industrial, rehabilitation).
Demonstrate the ability to consult, review and use scholarly literature for problem formulation in specific areas.
Demonstrate the ability to use data analytic procedures using SPSS like computational software.
Gain knowledge about the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology.
Demonstrate the ability to understand and apply various inquiry skills and integrate psychological research principles in various fields.
Demonstrate the ability to develop cognitive, affective, and behavioural abilities to become responsible psychology professionals and researchers.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

UNDER GRADUATE

3-year UG Degree:

On successful completion of three-year B.A. / B.Sc. programme, a UG Degree will be awarded in the Major discipline (Psychology / Clinical Psychology) after securing 120 credits in three years.

4-year UG Degree (Honours):

A four-year UG Honours degree in B.A. (Hons) Psychology/ B.Sc. (Hons) Clinical Psychology will be awarded after securing 160 credits on successful completion of four-years.

4-year UG Degree (Honours with Research):

Students who secure 75% marks/7.5 CGPA and above in the first six semesters and wish to undertake research in the major discipline can choose a major research project or dissertation with publication. A four-year UG Honours with research degree in Psychology/Clinical Psychology will be awarded on successful completion of four years.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

PhD Program

PhD program in various areas of Psychology are already running. Attractive schemes for full time regular research scholars are offered from the University.

B.A. Psychology

Passed 10+2 or equivalent in any stream

B.Sc. Clinical Psychology

Passed 10+2 preferably with Science/Environmental Science/Computer Science/Psychology.

Ph.D.

PG with 55% marks and University entrance exam/ NET qualified

Each year, on 30th April, Sikkim Manipal Institue of Technology honours the birth anniversary of Dr. T.M.A. Pai, Padma Shri, the esteemed founder of the Manipal education and healthcare conglomerate, as Annual Day. DEVOPIA is a new series of Hackathons which has been started by Innovision Council 2024. It marked the first edition of this new flagship event of Innovision. The event was conducted in collaboration with Coding Ninjas. The day started off with a webinar from Coding Ninjas which covered a series of topics, primarily focussing on importance of DSA, placement requirements and project building. This took place in the Seminar Hall.

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering hosted Centre for Computers and Communication Technology (CCCT), Chisopani for Two-Days Technical Excursion of their Final Year Students to SMIT. During the Technical Excursion, the Students of CCCT Chisopani conducted various technical experiments on Antenna, Satellite, Radar & Microwave Technologies in the Lab.

Education/ Carrier Fair

B and B Event has organized an education fair on dated from 6th April to 7th April, 2024 at Infinity futsal, Tadong, Gangtok. Many students form different school and polytechnic from Sikkim attended the fair. Total 225 students data has been collected from the fair. Our honourable Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal Dr. Dilip Chandra Agarwal (Retd) was invited on 7th April as a chief guest and felicitated the participating universities and colleges.
