Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy (SMCPT) commemorated World Physiotherapy Day. The focus for this year’s World PT Day is “Healthy ageing, with a focus on preventing falls and frailty”.

On 13th September, a Mega Health Camp was organized with other specialities like Medicine, Paediatrics, Dental, Surgery, OBG, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, and Pharmacy at Ahopul Kishan School, Pakyong, Sikkim.

The day started with a school prayer and introduction of the Health Camp team members.

SMCPT had invited 22 older persons from a government-operated Old Age Home located in Ranipool, East Sikkim. It is officially referred to by the Government of Sikkim as “The Old Age Home, Ranipool”. A thorough assessment was done including their Body Adiposity Index (BAI), height and weight measurements, and their caretaker was provided with comprehensive information on their health status.

A total of 302 residents from Aho participated in the health camp, seeking medical attention for a wide range of ailments. The camp successfully provided access to most of the available healthcare services. Among the attendees, approximately 100 students from Ahopul Kishan School received specialized care, including vision examination, ENT, general paediatric assessments, and dental check-ups.

Additionally, the Health Camp had invited a screening team for HIV, Hepatitis, and Syphilis. All visiting attendees and members of the camp and school underwent the screening tests.

The Health Camp concluded at 4:30 pm and was immensely appreciated by the residents of Aho, Pakyong, Sikkim.
