Central Referral Hospital, Manipal elevates Patient Experience with Introduction of Motorized Dialysis Chairs and In-Chair Infotainment Systems

Central Referral Hospital, Manipal today announced a major upgrade to its Renal Dialysis Unit with the introduction of new, state-of-the-art motorized dialysis chairs equipped with individual infotainment devices. This significant investment underscores the hospital’s commitment to patient comfort, dignity, and quality of life during crucial, life-sustaining treatments.

The long duration of hemodialysis sessions, often lasting four hours or more, multiple times a week, can be physically and emotionally taxing for patients. The new initiative directly addresses these challenges by transforming the treatment experience from a static clinical procedure into a more comfortable and engaging environment.

Enhancing Comfort and Care with Motorized Chairs

The newly installed chairs are fully motorized, allowing patients to effortlessly adjust their position—from upright to full recline and even therapeutic Trendelenburg position (in emergencies)—with a simple push of a button.

Key Benefits of Motorized Chairs:

  • Maximum Patient Comfort: Allows precise, effortless positioning to prevent stiffness and discomfort during extended sessions.
  • Improved Clinical Safety: Enables immediate, smooth adjustment to emergency positions like CPR, improving response time for clinical staff.
  • Enhanced Dignity: Patients can easily enter and exit the chair and adjust their position without requiring manual lifting or assistance from nurses.

Introducing In-Chair Infotainment for Well-being

In addition to superior physical comfort, each new chair is equipped with an integrated infotainment device, a major step forward in addressing the psycho-social aspects of chronic illness.

Features of the Infotainment System:

  • Personal Entertainment: Access to pre-loaded movies, TV shows, and music streaming services.
  • Health Education: Access to educational videos and digital materials on kidney care, diet, and self-management.
  • Internet Connectivity: Dedicated access for reading, connecting with loved ones, or working remotely (optional).

The new motorized chairs and infotainment systems are immediately operational at the CRH Dialysis Unit.
