REPORT ON SKILL-BASED TRAINING PROGRAMME ON FIRST AID MANAGEMENT

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON), successfully conducted a one-day "Skill-Based Training Programme on First Aid Management" on 17^th February 2026 at the Auditorium of the SMU Building. The training programme aimed to equip medical students with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence required to respond effectively during emergency situations.

The programme commenced with the registration of participants and proceeded according to the scheduled agenda. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Muralidhar V. Pai, Pro Vice Chancellor, SMU and Dean, SMIMS; Dr. Karma Sonam Sherpa, Registrar, SMU; Prof. Champa Sharma, Principal, SMCON; along with other dignitaries, faculty members, and MBBS students.

The theory sessions addressed a wide range of emergency situations and focused on the principles of first aid management. The participants were introduced to appropriate responses during medical emergencies and were sensitized to the importance of timely intervention in saving lives and preventing complications.

In addition to the theoretical component, hands-on skill sessions were conducted by the esteemed resource persons from SMCON. These practical sessions provided participants with opportunities to develop competency in essential first aid procedures, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), bandaging techniques, and bleeding control measures. The interactive demonstrations enabled the participants to apply their learning in simulated emergency scenarios, thereby enhancing their preparedness and confidence.

To evaluate the effectiveness of the training programme, both pre-test and post-test assessments were administered to assess the baseline knowledge and learning outcomes of the participants. The assessment findings reflected an improvement in participants' understanding of first aid principles and emergency management practices following the training sessions.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session and certificate distribution ceremony conducted by Prof. W. Ashalata Devi, Head of the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, SMCON. The event ended with a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of the dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, organizing committee, and participants.

Overall, the Skill-Based Training Programme on First Aid Management proved to be a highly informative and successful initiative. The programme effectively imparted crucial first aid knowledge and practical life-saving skills, empowering participants to respond promptly and efficiently during emergency situations and thereby contributing to improved healthcare preparedness within the community.
