The Universal Human Value (UHV) Cell of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University, organized an 8-Days Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Universal Human Values – II from 23rd to 30th June 2026 at the SMIT campus, Majitar, Sikkim. The programme was conducted with the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with the objective of promoting value-based education among educators and academic professionals.

The FDP was designed in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes holistic and value-oriented education. The programme aimed to help participants understand universal human values and integrate them into both personal and professional life. It also sought to encourage ethical human conduct, social responsibility, mutual respect, sustainable living, and human welfare through education.

The programme was organized under the guidance of the university administration. The Chief Patrons for the FDP were Dr. G. K. Prabhu, Vice Chancellor, SMU, and Dr. Muralidhar V. Pai, Pro Vice Chancellor, SMU. The event was supported by the Patrons, namely Dr. Karma Sonam Sherpa, Registrar, SMU, and Dr. Savitha G. Kini, Director, SMIT.

The FDP was coordinated by Dr. G. C. Mishra, Head, Department of Physics and Coordinator, UHV Cell, SMIT. The organizing committee comprised faculty and staff members from various constituent units of Sikkim Manipal University, reflecting the institution's collaborative approach towards promoting universal human values.

The programme was open to faculty members, administrative staff, research scholars, and academic professionals, and there were no prerequisites for participation. The FDP was conducted without any registration fee, and hospitality arrangements were made for the delegates. Limited accommodation facilities were also provided to outstation participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Through this initiative, SMIT reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an educational environment rooted in ethics, empathy, and holistic development. The Faculty Development Program served as an important platform for participants to reflect upon the role of human values in education and society, thereby contributing to the realization of the objectives envisioned under NEP 2020.

The programme concluded successfully with active participation from educators and academic professionals, reinforcing the importance of integrating universal human values into teaching-learning practices and institutional culture.
