The Mentor Orientation Session 2026 was successfully conducted on 11th February 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Hall of the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Sikkim Manipal University. The session aimed to introduce newly appointed mentors to the University framework, CDOE processes, and their roles and responsibilities, followed by an interaction with the leadership of CDOE.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome to all mentors by the Director, CDOE, along with the Deputy Director, CDOE, who addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of mentors in ensuring effective learner engagement and quality academic delivery.
The orientation session was subsequently led by Mr. Royal Tamang, Assistant Director, CDOE, who provided a comprehensive overview of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) and the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). The session covered several important aspects related to the mentors' responsibilities and institutional processes.

Mentors were guided on best practices for conducting live sessions, effective communication with learners, and strategies for managing academic and non-academic queries efficiently. Following the orientation, an interactive session was conducted, allowing mentors to engage directly with the Assistant Director, CDOE. Queries related to academic delivery, learner management, and university processes were addressed, making the session highly engaging and informative.
The programme concluded with an assessment designed to evaluate the mentors' understanding of the University and CDOE framework, the programmes offered by the institution, including specializations and electives, and the roles and responsibilities associated with mentoring. The assessment also helped identify the specific mentoring skills of the participants to support their future professional development within the University.
